Areas of Focus

Youth Empowerment Initiatives (YEI) provides empowerment for youth and young adults in Skills Training, Education, Conflict Resolution & Rehabilitation, Recreation, and Agriculture.

A.  Skills Training

Skill training is a very vital part of youth empowerment and development.  It contributes greatly to the development of the youth themselves, to the community, and to humanity in general.

Skills considered are based on need assessment and market for such skills. These may include small business management, electronics, shoe making/repairing, tailoring, masonry, carpentry, speaking (debate, public speaking, etc.), and computer literacy, product making, etc.

B.  Educational Program
YEI also seeks to provide scholarship opportunities to deserving youth and young adults who do not have the means of furthering their education due to financial inability.

Under its educational program, YEI also provides empowerment training for in-service teachers to improve their teaching techniques and methods.  This will help the youth gain much out of the teaching-learning process.
Working with out-of-school children to get them to enter school, stay in school, learn, and become productive citizens is a key focus of this program.

YEI organizes interactive discussion among youth on diverse issues of national, religious, and social concerns.  These include debate, quizzing, symposium, lectures, meet-the-challenge, etc.  YEI also establishes Anti-Corruption Clubs in schools and communities to help instill integrity in the young population.

C.  Conflict Resolution & Rehabilitation
Due to the long years of civil unrest in Liberia, the need for counseling and detraumatization cannot be overemphasized.  YEI provides Christian and psychosocial counseling and guidance for students, community dwellers, and youth in decision-making. Under its CRR component, YEI will also provide guidance and training in health-related issues with the sole aim of promoting a healthy and safe youth community.

With a huge number of unemployed, uneducated, and unskilled youthful population, the need for rehabilitation of young people who have gotten involved in unwholesome practices cannot be overemphasized.

D.  Recreation
Recreation helps foster unity and cooperative learning amongst people.  This is a period of playing and learning together.  Basic awareness campaigns are carried out amongst the youth.  These include HIV/AIDS, Malaria Control, Community Initiative, Team Building, Civic Education, Sports, etc.

E.  Agriculture
The involvement of youth in agricultural activities in a country so fertilled has been considered as one of the means to empower young people.  YEI engages beneficiaries in marketable and sustainable skills and activities aimed at helping people serve their society.
